I’ve never thought of hermits in a negative light. I suppose it’s my Catholic background. I’ve always thought of hermits as those who shut themselves away in order to contemplate God. It’s hard to hear His voice in the midst of all the noise of this world. I couldn’t do it forever, but I value alone time a great deal especially in times of prayer.

Your musings in Missouri Life always brought memories. Your cellar story had me thinking about going to ours as a kid during tornado warnings. To this day slugs give me the creeps. The cellar walls and ceiling was covered in them.

Now as I read about hermits I realize my dad was a "wanna be" hermit. Many times I would go with him to fish the Lamine River in the sticks of Otterville. He had an uncle who was a hermit living in an old log cabin up above the fishing path to the boat. Even as a kid I was fascinated with his way of life. Now in my older age, I would love to live in that long gone cabin above the river. However, one has to have grit and be tough to live that life. I could not survive.
